Some sessions just stay with you long after you deliver the gallery.
This was one of those sessions.
On a warm March evening at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum, the sun filtered through the trees in the dreamiest way, wrapping everything in soft golden light while this sweet family simply loved on each other exactly as they are in this season of life.
And honestly? That’s the magic.
Before every session, I send a questionnaire to help me better understand the people stepping in front of my camera. I always want sessions to feel personal and true to the family—not stiff or overly posed. When mom answered one of the questions with, “We are in that playful, cuddly, giggling stage of life,” I immediately knew the direction this session needed to go.
We leaned all the way into it.
There were no expectations for perfectly posed smiles or children sitting still for long stretches. Instead, we focused on movement, cuddles, tickles, carrying babies on shoulders, little sister hugs, forehead kisses, and letting the girls simply be little.
Those are the moments I love most. The in-between.
The split-second expressions. The way toddlers melt into their parents’ shoulders when they’re tired. The squeals when dad scoops everyone up at once. The tiny hands wrapped around mama’s dress. The uncontrollable giggles when sisters hug a little too hard on the blanket. That’s the real story.
One of my favorite things about photographing families with young children is understanding that the session doesn’t need to feel perfect to be beautiful. In fact, the most meaningful images almost always happen in the middle of the chaos—the movement, the noise, the cuddles, and the unpredictable toddler energy. Especially in this stage.
Because one day these little girls won’t fit so perfectly in their parents’ arms anymore.
the Arboretum gave us the perfect backdrop for all of it. Golden light danced through the trees, creating that soft, timeless glow that makes spring sessions in Baton Rouge so special. Combined with the neutral wardrobe palette and the gentle, connected energy of this family, every frame felt effortless and emotional in the best possible way.
Sessions like this remind me why I photograph families the way I do. I’ll guide you when needed, of course, but my favorite galleries are never about rigid posing. They’re about creating space for connection to naturally unfold. The goal is always for your photos to feel like you years from now when you look back on them.
And this gallery absolutely does. I already know this one will forever live in my “favorite sessions” folder.
