This Mother’s Day was extra special for me—I had the chance to spend four full days with my mom at my home in Baton Rouge. No big travel plans, no fancy events—just quiet, meaningful time together. And honestly, it was perfect.
We baked together (her key lime pie is still unmatched), read on the back porch while the dogs napped nearby, and just relaxed. These slow, simple moments reminded me of something so many moms say but we sometimes forget: they love every gift their children give them, but what they truly treasure most is time.
As a portrait photographer in Baton Rouge, I get to witness so many kinds of love through my lens—first-time moms, seasoned grandmothers, chosen families—and every session reminds me how deeply women give of themselves. Spending time with my own mom, uninterrupted and unhurried, felt like the greatest way to give back a little of what she’s always given me.
Mother’s Day doesn't need to be extravagant. Sometimes the most meaningful way to celebrate is by simply being present—no schedule, no expectations, just making space for connection. Whether it’s chatting over coffee, baking your favorite recipes together, or flipping through old family photo albums (my mom loved looking through my film photography prints), it’s these quiet moments that build the strongest bonds.
If you’re thinking about next year—or even just the next weekend—consider how you can carve out that time. It might not feel like much, but for moms, it’s everything.
To all the moms and mother-figures out there: thank you for loving us through every season of life. You deserve more than just a day of celebration—you deserve our time, our attention, and our gratitude.
